Length and Speed

Length and Speed controls are available for image clips and videos, audio clips, and text clips. Use them to adjust a clip’s positioning, length and speed.

Clip Start – use this to set a clip’s starting position on the timeline.

Clip Length – sets the length of time for which a clip is displayed. If multiple clips are selected, this can be used to adjust their length as a group.

Set In Point – shortens a clip from its start.

Set Out Point – shortens a clip from its end.

Playback Speed – the starting value is 100%. Reduce this value to slow down the clip. Increase this value to speed up the clip.

Position and Transformation

Use Position and Transformation for advanced adjustments to image and text clips. These adjustments can also be applied in time using keyframes.

Position and Transformation

Scale X and Y– use this to stretch or shrink a selected clip horizontally or vertically. If the lock icon is active, the X and Y values change together. If it is not active, differing values can be set. The default value is 100%. Reducing the value shrinks the clip. Increasing the value stretches the clip.

Position X and Y– use this to change the clip’s position within the video preview horizontally and vertically. With these values at zero, the clip is positioned at the center of the video. Increasing the X value shifts the clip to the right, and increasing the Y value shifts it downwards. Negative values can also be set, to shift the clip in the opposite direction.

Rotation – this rotates the clip leftward and rightward around the Anchor Point.

Pitch – this rotates the clip upward and downward around the Anchor Point.

Yaw – this rotates the clip forward and backward around the Anchor Point.

Anchor Point X and Y– these X and Y values set the Anchor Point’s position in the video preview. The Anchor Point sets the axis around which the Rotation, Pitch, and Yaw effects are applied.

Crop controls – use these controls to make the program crop the clip at one of its four edges. If a transformation has been made to a clip, use Crop after Transformation to set whether to adapt the crop to the clip’s current state or apply it without regard to the transformation instead.

Primary Transformations section – this offers several methods for positioning the clip within the video’s frame.

  • Fit – the clip is displayed in its entirety within the video frame. Depending on the ratio of sides, part of the video frame may remain empty (“letterboxing”).
  • Fill – the file fills up the entire area of the video frame. Depending on the file’s ratio of sides, part of the image may be cropped.
  • Stretch – the file fills out the entire area of the video frame. Depending on the ratio of sides, the image may be horizontally or vertically stretched or shrunk.
  • Original size – the file is displayed at its actual size. If the file’s actual image size is larger than the video format, it is cropped.
Several other functions are also available for image and video clips: Rotate by 90°, Flip Horizontally and Flip Vertically.

Effects section – this section is not available for text clips. The section contains a Pan & Zoom function; it can be used to add simple clip animations of several types: AutomaticallyZoom InZoom OutPan from Left, and Pan from Right.

Audio Adjustments

Audio Adjustments is available for videos and audio files.

Volume – volume can be set for an entire clip, or using key frames or levels, it can be set up to change over time.

Fade Audio In – the clip starts with zero volume, and the volume is gradually increased.

Fade Audio Out – the volume is gradually reduced, and the clip ends with zero volume.

Split off Soundtrack – this feature is only available for video clips. Use this feature to split a clip into two separate clips, with one containing only the video and the other containing only the audio. The audio clip is moved to a soundtrack on the timeline. To restore the clip’s audio if desired, change the volume from 0% to a higher level.

Image Adjustments

This contains features for enhancing and creatively adjusting photo or video images on the timeline. The adjustments available in the White BalanceExposureColorSharpness, and Vignetting sections are very similar or identical to the adjustments available in the photo-editing modules. Video Fading sets whether and how the picture fades in/out at the start and end of a clip.

Text Adjustments

Use Text Adjustments to adjust the contents and appearance of text added to a video. The upper portion of this area contains two boxes for adding text. Use the arrow next to the text field to add metadata tokens.

Metadata Source – use this to set what file is used as the source for adding metadata to the text.

The other controls here offer the usual options for working with text—changing the text’s size, type, or color, adding an outline, setting its alignment, etc. Use the features under Inner PaddingFrame Margin, and Alignment in Frame to set the text’s position within the video. The Effects section offers an effect that makes the text scroll from the bottom to the top, that is, a typical “ending credits” effect.
