Installation and Updates
Downloading and running the Zoner Studio installer file requires an internet connection. The installer only downloads the language that you choose. We use this approach so that the installation package stays compact.
Without an internet connection, the installer cannot check for available updates and install them.
Login and License Verification
When you start Zoner Studio for the first time, you need to log in so the program can verify your license. The license validity information is then stored in the Windows registry, and so as long as you don’t log out of the program, you can keep using it offline up until your license expires (that is, one year after the current license period began). For ordinary photo management and editing, you do not need to be online.
When renewing your license, you need to allow the program to connect to the internet to verify the license renewal.
Until it can verify the license renewal, the program uses the data from the registry and thus reports an expired license, even if the license has actually been renewed.
Features Requiring an Internet Connection
You cannot do the following in Zoner Studio without an internet connection:
- access the Zonerama gallery,
- order photo products from the Print module,
- use Zoner Photo Cloud use iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, or DropBox,
- share photos via email or social networks,
- contact technical support.
“Cannot Connect to the Internet” message
If your computer is connected to the internet but you still see a warning in Zoner Studio stating that it cannot connect to the internet, something on your computer is actively keeping the program from connecting.
Restart your computer.
Set an exception for Zoner Studio in your antivirus or antimalware software and temporarily deactivate it. (This concerns programs like AVG, Avast, Premium Security, Norton, Avira, McAfee, BitDefender, Windows Defender, Velcro, etc.).
Temporarily turn off any firewall, corporate firewall, proxy server, or VPN you may be using.
If that does not help, then take the following steps. Find the file named “hosts” in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. folder.
- Open it as Administrator, using, for example, this guide.
- Then delete all lines that contain “zoner” (e.g. 0.0.0.0 account.zoner.com).
- Save it and restart your computer.
If the situation cannot be resolved, contact us at support@zoner.com, attach the Installation Diagnostics log and, if possible, the system information file.
Why do I have to log in every time I start the program?
If you are using the MSI installer that is provided for a commercial permanent Zoner Studio license, first try downloading a new installer from your Zoner account. In the installer settings, make sure that “Allow automatic user logout upon program exit” is set to “No”.
If that did not help, or if you’re using our standard EXE installer, something on your computer is likely continuously clearing the registry – which is where Zoner Studio saves your Zoner Account login and your license information. This is typically some program designed for cleaning computers, such as CCleaner, Avast Cleanup, Avg TuneUp, or Avast Premium Security.
You can resolve the situation by setting an exception for Zoner Studio in the cleaning and antivirus programs on your computer.
