How do I work with HEIF, HEIC, and HEVC files in Zoner Studio?
HEVC Video Extension
HEIC is the abbreviation for High Efficiency Image Container. HEIC is a type of HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) file.
H.265/HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is a new standard for video compression that replaces the older H.264. The main advantage of the new format is that it provides much better compression while maintaining quality. This is why H.265 videos are smaller and have lower bandwidth requirements.
Please check that your PC meets the Zoner Studio System Requirements.
Support for the HEIF, HEIC, and HEVC formats must be turned on under View | Preferences (Ctrl+M) | Advanced.
If you see the message stating HEVC codecs initialized successfully, everything should work correctly.
- If you see a message stating that HEVC codecs could not be found, install them from the Microsoft Store. This is a $0.99 purchase in the Store. To make this purchase, click HEVC Video Extension inside Zoner Studio, or simply visit the Microsoft Store.
- If you have an older version of Zoner Studio, update it to the latest version. For more information, go to: Zoner Studio updates.
Zoner HEVC Codecs
Zoner HEVC Codec enables support for HEIF format variants that are not covered by the standard HEVC Video Extension. This typically includes most 10-bit HIF files, 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, HDR, and others.
The installation of the Zoner HEVC Codec is suggested via a notification in the preview or under the bell icon in the top bar of the program only if the codec is necessary to process your HEIF files.
By clicking Install HEVC Codec, a browser page for your Zoner Account will open, where you can download the codec.
Choose Activate and Download Zoner HEVC Codecs for Free to download the installation file zhc.exe, which will then be linked to your Zoner Account.
- Install the codec by running zhc.exe.
After installation, Zoner Studio must be restarted.
